EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUES:
HOW DO I DO EFT?
"Einstein discovered decades ago that physical matter (including the human body) is made
of energy.  Thus, even though the human body may appear to be solid, its foundation is
energetic at its core.  This simple fact is one of the most universally agreed upon findings in
the scientific world but, to date, it has not been well integrated into Western healing
procedures."
   Gary Craig, Founder of EFT
1.  DECIDE WHAT YOU'D LIKE TO WORK ON

Identify a current issue you wish to work on.  The more specific you can be,
the better.  Instead of working on, "Every time someone hurts my feelings," for
example, choose one time that someone hurt your feelings.  It can be the first
time it ever happened, or the time that hurt the most, or it can be the most
recent time you got your feelings hurt.  It's often helpful to use the first thing
that pops into your head when you think about choosing an incident to work
with.
There is no need to vividly remember the episode.  Pain is not
required for healing with EFT, so there is no benefit to reliving painful or
traumatic incidents!  We just want to have a specific event to work with.

If it's a physical issue you're working with, it may help to describe the pain,
discomfort or symptom.  "
Pounding right-sided headache," for example.  Or
"
raw, burning sting in the back of my throat."

2.  GAUGE YOUR INTENSITY

How much does the issue bother you, or how painful is it?  Rate it on a scale
of 0 to 10, with zero being not at all, and 10 being the worst possible. If you
would become too upset if you thought about your issue intently, DON'T.  Just
guess-- if you let yourself think about it and focus on it, what would your
number be?

3.  PICK A SET-UP PHRASE

The tapping procedure begins with a set-up phrase, which you repeat while
tapping on a special point.  The most basic EFT set-up phrase is:

"Even though I have this <problem>, I deeply and completely accept myself."

4.  TAP ON THE KC POINT WHILE SAYING THE SET-UP PHRASE

The KC or "Karate Chop" point is the fleshy area on the side of your hand,
right beneath your little finger (see
Tapping Points page).  Tapping on this
area while repeating the set-up phrase 3 times helps to clear any energetic
blocks that might contribute to self-sabotage.  How many times have you
wanted to get over something, or start doing something better, or STOP doing
something... and you really got excited about it... but never quite followed
through?  This step can help you!

5.  TAPPING SEQUENCE WITH REMINDER PHRASE

Now you tap through the series of tapping points.  You can use either hand to
tap with, or you can even use both hands.  There is only one set of tapping
points with EFT, so it's easy to remember!  This same series of points is
effective for both physical and emotional issues.

To help maintain focus on the issue you're working on, you repeat a
reminder
phrase as you tap on each point.  This helps your energetic system to shift
and realign the disruption.  You can use something as simple as "this problem."

6.  CHECK YOUR INTENSITY AGAIN

Has your number gone down?

7.  REPEAT UNTIL INTENSITY IS ZERO

If this initial tapping round results in a significant change-- and it often does--
you can simply repeat the process until the symptom or issue is relieved.
Remember to change your set-up phrase and reminder phrase for
subsequent rounds.  This helps your brain to
continue to work on the issue,
instead of quitting on you because it's already done some work on it!

"Even though I STILL have some of this <problem>, I deeply and completely
accept myself."

And for the reminder phrase, "remaining <problem>."

WHAT IF MY INTENSITY STAYS THE SAME?

If your intensity level doesn't go down and the symptom or issue stays the
same, or if it returns after improving, there is almost always a deeper
emotional factor at work.

Advanced EFT application can enhance your results significantly in these
instances.  A skilled EFT practitioner knows the techniques available for
uncovering the core issues and approaching them with minimal emotional
pain.

CAN I USE EFT TO TREAT MY SERIOUS AND/OR CHRONIC ILLNESS?

In a word, yes.  Even beginners have had wonderful successes using EFT for
challenging and multi-aspected illnesses.  I would always encourage you to tap
and to monitor yourself carefully, then respond accordingly.  You are your own
health authority, and I recognize and respect this.

Applying EFT to serious diseases and chronic illnesses may sometimes
require advanced experience.  Please consult a qualified health practitioner
before discontinuing any treatment or medications for serious or chronic
conditions.  If you choose to do otherwise, as is your right, please take
responsibility for your decisions regarding your health and your healthcare.
